Stefan Berg is a Canadian artist that draws from memory and using his observation’s spirit, documenting domestic scenes and contemporaries urban landscape in his country.
Stefan Berg finds beauty in commonplaces, painting architectural landscapes and interiors without embellishing or enhancing their aesthetics. The apartment complexes that sit beyond his studio feature regularly in his work, their looming banality rendered as beautiful by his brush. He often paints these en plein air, from the roof of his studio—the challenge of capturing moving light and shadow is evidently something he has mastered.
Stefan Berg lives and works in Toronto and Bruce County, Ontario. He received a BFA from OCAD University in 2008. His work has been exhibited across Canada and the United States and has received positive reviews in the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. He is the recipient of several awards including the Eric Freifeld Award, and grants from The Canadian Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council, The Toronto Arts Council, and The Access Copyright Foundation, the support he gratefully acknowledges.
