Nicholas JR White is an English photographer that documented the culture around the mountainous regions of the United Kingdom to capture the beauty of the abandoned bothies.

Nicholas JR White captured the majesty of the United Kingdom; from the sublime mountains of the Scottish Highlands to England’s vast and beautiful Lake District and the peaks and rivers of Eryri in Wales. His photo series is called “Black Dots” because the bothies exist in these spectacular landscapes. Far from civilization and accessible only by foot, they offer a place for respite from the natural world. Drawn to the primitive beauty of both the shelters and the wild countryside they sit within, White determined to explore the culture that surrounded them. ‘Black Dots’ is the culmination of three years spent traversing some of the most remote parts of the British Isles, photographing both bothies and the people that visit them.
